The Community

A co-ed boarding school for students grade 9 thru 12 with separate dorms for boys and girls, our teens are well supported 24x7 from staff and dorm parents. Students develop skills to help them make positive choices and cultivate positive decisions into college and into adult life. The Fenster Boarding School near Tucson, AZ, is a close-knit community of students, administrators and faculty members working and living together.

Like all successful communities, Fenster Boarding School enforces reasonable rules. By taking away privileges, such as weekend trips and utilizing community service and detention study hours, teens who break rules can earn fresh starts.

Fenster Boarding School's 150-acre campus is nestled in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, surrounded by the warmth and beauty of the Sonoran Desert. The desert environment sustains many varieties of plant and animal life unique to this region. The adjacent Santa Catalina Mountains tower over the Tucson valley, offering canyons, creeks and waterfalls to explore, as well as Mount Lemmon, the country's southern-most ski area. Students can hike, ski, ride horses, or swim - all in the same day.

The Fenster Boarding School grounds include stables, playing field, basketball courts, swimming pool, aerobics/spinning studio, ropes course with climbing tower and weight lifting. Near the rustic adobe buildings of the campus lay ancient Hohokam Indian archeological sites. Despite the desert environment, this site flourished as a Hohokam community centuries ago.

Our unique environment is both rural and urban. The proximity to Tucson is an asset to our academic and social programs. A minimum of four weekend trips provides students the opportunity to sample the varied events Tucson offers. Theaters, shopping, sporting and cultural events are all a short drive from our campus.

The Fenster Boarding School admits students of all races, creeds and national or ethnic origins. It does not discriminate on the basis of race color, sex, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs or athletic or other school administered programs.

Fenster Boarding School Sports & Activities

Interscholastic sports are an integral part of the student's life after the school day is done. Because of our small size, our interscholastic teams can accommodate all interested athletes. Soccer, basketball and volleyball teams compete against other small high schools in the state of Arizona. Our highly competitive teams frequently go on to regional and state tournaments.

In addition to sports, there are ample opportunities to exercise and play on the Fenster campus. Recreational outlets include a swimming pool, climbing tower and ropes course, playing fields, basketball courts, spinning room, weight lifting, volleyball court, fully equipped stables and hiking in the nearby Sabino Canyon recreational area. Fenster's location in the warm dry Sonoran Desert allows for outdoor recreation every day of the year.

Other extracurricular activities include Student Government and Yearbook staff. The student government's responsibilities have included coordinating a 2-week European tour during Spring Break, organizing on-campus paint ball tournaments, coordinating various ski trips, including Lake Tahoe, and raising money for an all-school prom held every year in the spring.

Fenster's proximity to the city of Tucson provides access to diverse cosmopolitan, cultural activities such as theater, symphonies, movies, museums, as well as the University of Arizona, which promotes cultural and sporting events.

Other interesting excursions may include the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum, Old Tucson Movie Studios, Mexico, the Grand Canyon, and trips to southern California.
