High School Computer Science Classes 

If you are looking for a high school computer programming curriculum that will allow your teen to succeed, Fenster Boarding School has just the program for you. Our extensive high school computer class selection has all of the basic courses you need to prepare your student for an exciting career in computer science including Introduction to Computers, Desktop Publishing, Web Design and Design Applications. Each of these high school computer courses will prepare and introduce your teenager to today's most relevant software programs including the Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher, Photoshop, InDesign, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Illustrator and others. Fenster allows students to learn at their own pace while attending our 150-acre campus nestled at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson, Arizona. Introduction to Computers (811)
Prerequisite: None

The introductory computer course provides students with a general understanding of the fundamentals of computer vocabulary, particularly with respect to personal computer hardware and software.  Students will gain an understanding of why computers are essential components in the business world and society in general, with a focus on the computer as a valuable productivity tool.  Students will learn about the history of computers, computer components, how computers work, operating systems, applications, programming languages, databases, networking communications, the Internet, E-commerce, security, privacy, ethics, and careers in technology.  The course also includes Project One of the Office XP Suite (Course One) software application that includes Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Power Point.

 

Desktop Publishing (839)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers (811)

This course will teach the students how to use desktop publishing software.  This is the software that is used to print daily newspapers, magazines and much that we read today.  Students will also work on the school yearbook.  The course will cover the complete concepts and techniques in desk top publishing using Microsoft Publisher 2002, Adobe In-Design and Adobe Photoshop.  Throughout all of these modules, the students will be designing and creating the school yearbook using online website that is hosted by Jostens Inc.  Students will complete projects in the Publisher, Photoshop and In-Design textbooks.  This is a one semester course.

 

 

 Web Design (847)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers (811) and/or Desktop Publishing (830)

This course will teach students how to use web page design software.  Today all facets of society from news rooms to retail storefronts have associated websites.  The total collection of these websites is what we call the Internet.  Students will gain the knowledge to design, build and maintain individual web pages and entire websites in this course.  The course will cover the complete concepts in website design using Microsoft Front Page 2003 and Macromedia Dream weaver MX.  Through all of these modules, the students will be creating and updating the student school website www.fensterschool.org.  This is a two semester course.

 

 

Design Applications (860)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers (811) or Desk Top Publishing (839)

This course will teach the student to use design application software.  This will include Adobe-In-Designs CS# (Desktop Publishing Software), Adobe Illustrator CS3 (Digital Illustration Software) and Adobe Photoshop CS3 (Digital Image Editing Software.  Fifty percent of the course schedule will be completing the school yearbook.  Students will be designing and creating the school yearbook using software learned in Desktop Publishing and the software described above.  Students will use an online website that is hosted by Jostens Inc. to complete the yearbook.  Once the yearbook is completed, the remainder of the course will be used to complete projects in the Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3 & In-Design CS3 textbook.  This is a one semester course.
